It Should Never Have Taken This Long: on the ceasefire resolution
It should never have taken this long.
Yes it is good to see the ALP shift its approach with the release of a statement (with New Zealand and Canada) and a changing vote at the UN General Assembly to call for a ceasefire but this is the bare minimum, and it is far too late.
And so we must keep fighting for what is actually needed: a permanent ceasefire, an end to the blockade of Gaza, freedom for all prisoners held, and an end to apartheid and violence across the West Bank and all of Palestine.
The genocide being perpetrated by Israel must end, and the West’s financial and military support of it must cease.
We all must keep up the pressure everywhere we can, however we can. This shift has only come because of the incredible pressure and hard work that everyone - led by Palestinians - has exerted through sending emails, marching, speaking up, making phone calls, passing motions, taking direct action, having conversations, wearing the signs and symbols of Palestine, and more. We cannot stop now. We will continue to be in the struggle alongside Palestinians today, tomorrow and until there is freedom for all.
For nothing less than freedom and justice for all of Palestine and all Palestinians, from the river to the sea, is acceptable.
